Bus training gears up and attracts new recruits at Transit Academy

Transit Systems, Australia’s leading public bus operator, has geared up its training capacity in South Australia, with the roll out of a new national training academy at Torrens Transit’s Morphettville depot.

Torrens Transit Managing Director Andrew Jenkinson said the investment to deliver the Transit Academy reflects the deep respect they have for drivers.

“We have created an exciting and engaging Academy where new drivers can gain experience and accreditation, and where we can champion the valued contribution that our workforce makes to the community.

“Drivers can join us with a normal licence and upgrade their accreditation, while they’re paid to undertake training, which makes shifting your career in a new direction even easier and more accessible,” he said.

From working with school children, to accessibility support and customer service, Transit Systems CEO Michael McGee said they know bus drivers are tasked with a duty of care to get people where they need to go, safely and reliably.

“From professionals looking to clock off when the shift finishes, to parents wanting flexible working hours - there’s really no stereotype in a transport career and we welcome everyone onboard,” he said.

With full-time, part-time, casual and fixed term positions available, Mr McGee said the Transit Academy will continue to engage and inspire the next generation of drivers.

“We know mass transit is the most effective way to decarbonise a city, which makes our dedicated drivers a fundamental part of the zero-emission achievement, every single day they transport customers in the community.

“With more electric buses on the road than any other operator, Australia’s largest operational electrified depot, and the largest fleet of hydrogen buses, it’s an extraordinary time of innovation in our industry and a very exciting time to join Team Transit.,” said Mr McGee.
