New Transit Systems NSW Managing Director ready for the fast lane
With 58 million customer journeys completed in the last year at Transit Systems NSW, new Managing Director Daniela Fontana knows she’s stepping into the fast lane.
Transit Systems CEO Michael McGee said Fontana brings with over 20 years of extensive experience in the transport industry, along with a proven track record of leadership and strategic vision.
“Daniela has a proven reputation for the delivery of safe, reliable, and efficient services that exceed performance standards.
“Her collaborative approach and ability to align strategic and operational plans with key stakeholders have driven success and we’re proud to welcome her onboard,” he said.
Throughout her career, Fontana has demonstrated a passion for delivering high-quality services and solutions that meet the needs of transport customers, stakeholders, and communities.
“We welcome Daniela to her new role as Managing Director, Transit Systems NSW and I have no doubt that her leadership will help to continue to propel our company forward as she embarks on this exciting journey with us,” he said.
Fontana will be responsible for overseeing the company’s 58 million customer journeys in NSW each year, which includes a fleet of 1210 buses, and 79 zero emission buses, as well as Australia’s first fully electric depot.
Fontana said she was excited to meet the 2,583 team members and ensure the high standards of safety, service and innovation continued to be delivered.
“Transit Systems has a global reputation for delivery of innovation, excellence and safety and I’m thrilled to be on the team that brings world-class knowledge and zero emission leadership into New South Wales.
“I have always believed that transport is key to connection in communities, and that cities that keep moving are successful ones, which aligns with the Transit Systems ethos.

Fontana also added that developing innovative recruitment and training programs, to attract the next generation of workers also appealed to her.
“Transit Systems’ investment into the next generation of technology and recruitment is incredibly proactive and progressive, and it’s an exciting time to be driving forward with projects and campaigns that make a positive and powerful impact on the industry,” she said.
Fontana takes over from Jamie Sinclair, a well-respected industry veteran, with over 46 years of industry experience.
Mr McGee said Jamie has been an incredible asset.
“With Jamie’s leadership, knowledge, and unwavering passion for the bus industry, his guidance has been instrumental, especially during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic. We thank him for his service and commitment and wish him all the very best for a well-earned retirement,” he said.
